Proud Parents & Going to New York

June 3, 2005

Mom called saying that she received the magazine and was very happy and proud. I heard Dad in the background saying “My son the writer”. I told Mom when the magazine will be available in stores and she said she is going to go out and buy a whole bunch to hand out and send to her friends. I spoke with Mom about her upcoming eye surgery where she will need to be facing in a down position for ten days after the operation. She will be reverse reclined in a specially made chair to try and make her as comfortable as possible.

Tomorrow I head down to New York, to see the Tina, Doll, Pam and Renee. I will be staying overnight at Doll and Mark’s place.

What I’m Reading

I have just completed two books this past week. The first was The Pirate Round, by James L. Nelson. This is a highly accurate historical fiction story about an old pirate that wants to make one more run to raid the straits of Madagascar to plunder one of the Mogul’s ships. Through a series of twists and misadventures, he faces old and new enemies that make this last run anything but smooth sailing. This was an excellent and gripping story.

The next was The Jester, by James Patterson. This story takes place during the middle ages. A man from a small village returns form the brutal Crusades, to find his home and family destroyed by knights of the local lord. He wants revenge, and the only way he can find to get close to those who wronged him is to become a Jester in their court. This is an exciting tale. The chapters are short and punchy, and the pages fly by in quick succession.

The Sedona Method by Hale Dwoskin is a self-help book that is a method that is held in high regard and has been clinically tested as effective in Harvard University study. It’s a deceptively simple method, and therefore, hard to absorb as being effective. I read it in small drabs of about 5 pages a day and try to practice what it suggests. I don’t know if it is power of suggestion or what, but I do seem to get some of the sensations that is describes when I follow it.

It’s Here!

June 1, 2005

I finally received my comp copies of Iron Horse magazine with my article in it. The front cover shows actor Michael Madsen, posing on a Harley. My article appears on page 82. Mary and the kids were very excited and happy for me – so was I. This issue hits that racks on June 15th. The kids told and showed the magazine to some of their friends. I could tell that Stephen was proud of the fact that I published an article in a “cool” magazine, and that it likely made some of his friends envious. I mailed Mom & Dad a copy of the magazine.
